New Teachers 2012-13
Queen Anne’s County has established a comprehensive support system for new teachers. (New Teacher Induction Program).  It begins with a week-long orientation program held just prior to the return of all teachers in August. During that week, new teachers meet centrally and school-based; they learn about the goals and expectations of the system, they are trained by curriculum supervisors on county curriculum and they learn about the policies, procedures, and initiatives at their school.

Over the last few years, a mentor program  (Teacher Mentor Program) to support novice teachers in Queen Anne’s County has been developed in Queen Anne’s County.  The county has structured a part-time mentor program whereby retired teachers are hired on an hourly basis to support beginning teachers.  These are experienced teachers who meet the criteria established by the state and county, have a firm commitment to the profession of teaching, and who have a strong desire to assist teachers new to the profession.  Mentors receive training in areas such as qualities of a mentor, characteristics of the adult learner, and peer coaching.
