Board of Education Approves End-of-Year Adjustments to 2016-2017 Academic Calendar and Revisions to the
2017-2018 Academic Calendar
Centreville, Maryland (April 6, 2017) – The Queen Anne’s County Public Schools Board of Education approved end-of-year adjustments to the 2016-2017 calendar at the April Board Meeting on April 5, 2017. Since only two of the five built-in snow days were used, the current school year will end on Friday June 9, 2017, for both students and teachers. The final three days of the year will be half days and there will no Pre-K classes on those three days. The last day for AM and PM Pre-K will be Tuesday June 6, 2017. We will remind everyone of these changes again in May.
The Board of Education also approved revisions to the 2017-2018 academic calendar. The first day of school for students will be on September 5, 2017 and the last day is scheduled for June 15, 2018. Based on recommendations from a group that included parents, teachers, and administrators. The group recommended more time for Fall parent conferences and made Spring conferences optional over the course of two half days. These spring conference days are presented as optional because teachers meet with and discuss parent concerns throughout the year. Parent feedback suggested that spring conferences are secondary to the importance of fall conferences. Please note that parents are encouraged to ask for an “in person” meeting or a phone call with your child’s teachers throughout the year.
The 2017-2018 school year will end with three half days (three for high schools and the last two for elementary)and there will no Pre-K classes on those three days. There are four snow days built in. In the event that more than four snow days are needed prior to March 7th, school will be in session on March 29, 2018.
